I lost the weight.
I didn't expect to lose my shape.
I got smaller. I also got softer, and nobody warned me.
Where this started
I'm 46. Last year, the weight I'd been fighting finally came off.
Some of it was discipline. Some of it, honestly, was the shot half my book club is on. Either way, it worked. The number dropped like I'd always wanted it to.
And I looked deflated. Not lean or toned. Flatter, and older in the face than I was when I weighed more. My jeans were loose in a way that was somehow worse than tight. A friend called it, a little too cheerfully, Ozempic butt.
I'd lost more than fat.

What actually happened
You don't just lose fat.
When weight comes off fast, your body doesn't politely take it all from your fat stores. It takes a real chunk out of muscle too. And muscle is what holds your shape. It's the firmness under the skin, and it's why clothes sit right on you.
Lose the muscle and you get the deflated version of thinner. Smaller, but shapeless. Which is exactly what I was looking at.
The scale can't show you any of this. It just goes down.
The research
In one study, people who took creatine while dieting lost
less muscle.
Same diet, same weight loss. Far less of it came out of muscle.
Rockwell et al., 2001 · Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise
The turn
The problem wasn't the weight loss.
It was the muscle that came off with it.
I didn't want the weight back. I wanted to stop bleeding muscle every week I stayed smaller. Turns out that comes down to three things: enough protein, resistance training, and creatine. The one I'd ignored for years.
Lifting and protein I knew about.
Creatine I'd written off as a gym-bro thing.
The catch
So I went to buy some. It didn't go well.
The capsules.
Six horse pills a day. By week two the bottle had moved to a drawer I never open, next to expired allergy meds and a dead battery. I gave them to my sister. She forgot them too.
The powder tub.
A tub the size of a paint can, a scoop of what tasted like wet chalk at six in the morning. I'm not a wet-chalk-at-six person. Three mornings, then it became furniture.
The gummies.
These I could actually stick to, because they were candy. Then I read the independent lab tests, and I lost it.

Independent lab testing
The gummies I'd been chewing contained
creatine.
Labels promised 5g a serving. Four of six brands tested at almost none. Two at exactly 0%.
WIRED, 2025 · lab tests commissioned by SuppCo
Creatine is a fragile molecule. It doesn't survive heat, moisture, and months sitting in a sugar matrix on a warehouse shelf. The label can say 5g and the gummy can still be a placebo by the time it reaches you.
So there I was, protecting my muscle with candy that contained nothing. For six weeks.
That's the supplement industry.
What finally worked
I stopped trying to take creatine.
I started drinking it.
You know the electrolyte drinks everyone stirs into water in the afternoon. They taste good, they make me drink more water, and I actually look forward to them.
A friend told me there was one with creatine in it. Same flavor, same stir-into-a-glass habit, same afternoon I already had. Except now the glass of electrolyte water I was making anyway also held five grams of creatine monohydrate. The exact dose from the studies.
I didn't add a habit. I upgraded one.

The thesis
I'm not on creatine.
I'm on a hydration drink.
That happens to protect my shape.

The math of it
PUBLISHED CLINICAL STUDIES ON CREATINE
e.g. Kreider et al. (2017), Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, the most-cited modern creatine review.
Creatine is a numbers game. It's a cumulative-dose molecule: every day, or it doesn't do much. There's no study that says take it three times a week when you feel like it.
Which means the only thing that actually matters about a creatine product is whether you'll still be taking it three months from now. The tub in my cupboard was a perfectly good creatine. It just sat there.
What you're actually getting
5g per scoop.
The full dose used in the studies. On the label, no proprietary blend.
Electrolytes, Mg, Na and K.
The reason you'll actually drink it tomorrow, and the day after.
Powder, not a gummy.
The creatine is actually in there, and it stays there.
Third-party tested.
The dose on the label is the dose in the scoop.
Calibrated for women in their 40s.
Not a 22-year-old rugby player's pre-workout.
What I'm on
Metra Creatine Hydration.
A light citrus hydration drink, electrolyte-balanced, calibrated for women in their 40s. It also holds five grams of clinically dosed creatine monohydrate per scoop, the full amount printed on the label.
Made for women who lost the weight and want their shape back, and who already tried the tub, the capsules, and the gummies.
For women 40+.
Not a gym brand.
Not a wellness brand.

The offer
The Creatine Protocol: keep the shape you fought for.
Three tubs. Ninety days. One scoop a day, the full clinical dose, in a hydration drink you'll actually finish.
Three tubs · one scoop a day · cancel anytime
About $1.17 a day, against $1.73 buying them one tub at a time. Less than the gummies that tested at zero.
Included with the 90 days
Two things come with the quarterly.
A Metra Daily water bottle $35 value
Ships in the box with your first order, so you're not mixing it in a coffee mug.
The 90-Day Strength Plan $10 value
Digital, emailed the day you order. What to take and when. A protein target in grams for your bodyweight. The two lifts that do most of the work for keeping muscle, and how often to do them. A checkpoint at weeks 4, 8 and 12 so you can tell whether it's working.
It also puts the timeline in writing. With no loading phase, creatine takes about 28 days of daily use before your stores are full. Week three is too early to judge it.
$45 together, included with your first order.
Drink it for the full 90 days. If you don't feel the difference, every dollar comes back. Yes, even if the tubs are empty.
One honest note on timing: holding on to muscle while you're losing weight is a lot easier than rebuilding it afterward. So the useful time to start is while the weight is still coming off.

Before you go
Does creatine really help with shape after weight loss?
Creatine won't add fat back, and it isn't a shortcut. What the research supports is protecting the muscle you have while you diet, and muscle is what holds your shape. Paired with protein and resistance training, it's the piece most women skip.
Is this actually creatine?
Yes. Five grams of creatine monohydrate per scoop, the exact dose used in the studies. No proprietary blend, third-party tested, the full amount is right on the label.
Why specifically for women 40+?
Same molecule, different priorities. Less sweetener, more electrolytes, calibrated for the perimenopause hydration window. Not a college pre-workout.
What if I already take a creatine I like?
Then keep taking it. The molecule is the molecule. This page is for everyone who never found one that stuck.
How does it taste?
Light citrus, low sweetness. We tested it with women who don't actually like supplements. This is the one most of them finished the tub of.
Will creatine make me bulky?
No. Bulk takes years of deliberate training and eating for it. Creatine helps you keep the lean muscle that holds your shape, which is the opposite of going soft. The bulky myth has kept a generation of women away from the most studied supplement there is.
Doesn't creatine cause bloating?
The water creatine draws goes inside your muscle cells, which reads as firm, not puffy. That cellular hydration is part of the point. The bloated feeling people describe usually comes from mega-dose loading weeks, which we don't use. 5g a day, steady.
How long until my first order arrives?
Three business days from order. Subscriptions ship before you run out, and you can cancel anytime.

P.S.
If you skimmed to the bottom, the short version. Fast weight loss takes muscle with it, and muscle is your shape. Creatine at the studied 5g dose, with training and protein, is how you keep it. Metra puts that dose in an electrolyte drink you'll actually finish: third-party tested, about $1.17 a day, 90-day money-back. Your first order comes with a Metra water bottle and the 90-Day Strength Plan. It's one scoop a day, and you can cancel whenever.
